How to Pick the Right Shingle Color

    8/7/2018

It can sometimes be quite difficult to choose a color after deciding to get asphalt shingles. Which color would be the best fit? What should you take into consideration when you are making your choice? For the most part, which color of shingle you choose depends on your personal preference, but there are several other factors to consider when choosing the right color shingles for your home.

    Climate

The climate in your area influences more than just your color choice when it comes to shingles. Impact resistant shingles may be best if your home is in a region that is prone to hail. Cool roofing options may be ideal for homes in hot and sunny areas. You should take the climate into consideration when deciding on the color of your shingles as well. Darker shingles absorb more heat. In a colder climate, this could be beneficial, but it might be less so in a very hot location.

    Building Style

Depending on the style of home, some shingle colors might complement your home’s look better than others. Red clay colored shingles can invoke a tile roofing look in Spanish style homes. A shingle that resembles slate might be the best choice for a colonial style home. There are also shingles available that mimic the look of traditional shake roofing.

    Colors of Your Home

Unless you also plan on redoing your trim and siding at the same time, you’re going to want to make sure that the color of your roof complements the color of your home well. Neighborhood Style

Perfecting the style of your own home is important, but you must also consider how your home will look alongside other homes in your neighborhood. What are the styles of the homes near yours? Will your home compliment the overall look of the homes around you, or will it clash? It’s important to make sure your home looks appealing with the surrounding homes as well as on its own.
