Northern Virginia Hail and Tornado Damage

2/26/2016

The extent of the damage from recent storms is still not clear in Northern Virginia. Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency in response to the storms which ripped through the state on Wednesday.

As the dust settles on the storm, many are left with damage to their homes. R.M. Banning Roofing provides emergency roofing services for you home that’s suffered hail, tornado, or wind damage. Here are a few things to keep in mind when assessing home damage.

  • Safety first. If there is any sign of damage to the roof structure or any weight-bearing part of your home, you should try not to remain in the home until the damage has been assessed.
  • Don’t try to fix or assess roof damage yourself; always call a professional. Storm damage can make roofing even more dangerous by loosening shingles or weakening parts of your roof.
  • If your home is structurally sound, try to document any damage using photos if possible. You may need these later for your insurance claim.
  • If you purchase any tarps, fasteners, tape, or anything else to temporarily cover damage, always keep your receipts. Some insurance policies will reimburse you for these expenses.
