Hail Damage in Northern Virginia
5/3/2016
Northern Virginia was hit by an unexpected hail storm Monday; in some places hail up to 2.5 inches in diameter was reported. The storm’s sudden intensity was a surprise to everyone, and few home and business owners had the chance to take precautions. Hail is a rare occurrence in Northern Virginia, and not all home and business owners are prepared to deal with hail damage.
- If your home was in the path of the damage, it’s important to get your roof inspected. Even if there’s no obvious damage, or there’s not damage visible from the ground, there may be damage, broken, or loosened shingles that will cause leaks or further damage down the road.
- Many home insurance policies cover hail damage. Contact your insurance company to see what your policy covers.
- Keep your receipts: if you purchase tarps, ropes, or anything else to protect for home against further damage, keep your receipts. Some insurance policies will reimburse these expenses.
- If you find any leaks or sign of moisture ceilings or attics, contact a roofing contractor immediately.
- If your shingles are dented, cracked, crooked, or missing, contact a roofing contractor immediately.
